404 Not Found
No resource exists at this URL (or you may not see it).
What it means
Wrong path, deleted resource, or a resource deliberately hidden from you.
What your client should do
Check the path, IDs and API version. If you just created the resource, check you used the right ID.
Should you retry?
Only after you change the request.
Security angle
If changing an ID in the URL returns someone else’s data instead of 404, the API has broken object level authorization (OWASP API1).
Try it
The free practice API returns this status on demand, with the headers a well-behaved API would send. Call GET /api/play/status/404 from Endpoint Client and open the Explain tab.
